Day 32 and 33
Do you ever wish God would give you a sign that He is real or that He is with you? When I was about 7 or 8 years old I asked for just that.
Since ours was a large family we had a huge clothes line. It operated on pulleys and reached up into the sky way higher than our house. At the lower end, next to our house, we had a wooden stand on which sat a basin filled with clothes pins. One night I challenged God. I asked Him to pin all the clothes pins around the perimeter of the basin. When I got up in the morning and saw that then I would know beyond the shadow of a doubt that He was real.
It never happened. God wants us to get to know and trust Him as we spend time with Him, reading the Bible and praying. When we see how He answers our prayers and helps us on a daily basis we become totally convinced that He is real.
But Pharaoh and the Egyptians wouldn’t believe in Moses’ God, the God of the Bible, and they surely didn’t try praying to Him. They trusted in their gods. So God did show them signs to prove His being and power to them. I wouldn’t want to see the signs He gave them. They were signs of boils, hail, and darkness; even death. Finally, even the king, Pharaoh, believed in God but he would not serve Him.
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” Acts 16:31 NKJV

I want to walk with you spiritually this year, inviting you to read the Bible through from cover to cover; from Genesis 1 all the way to Revelation 22:21. If that sounds too difficult for you and your kids, you can join in again after you have taken a break or join us for the days you’re up to it. We will start on Sunday, January 18th and finish Saturday, January 16, 2010. I promise that you will understand the Bible in a much deeper way if you read it through from cover to cover in a year’s time.
Accept my challenge to read the Bible through in one year chronologically, including the Old and the New Testament.
I’m going to give you an extra challenge for the next few days only. We need to read 2 days readings each day until we catch up on the right day of the year, so we can finish by December 31, 2009.
Day 32: Today read:
Exodus 13:17-15:18
Matthew 21:23-46
Psalm 26:1-12
Proverbs 6:16-19
Day 33:
Exodus 15:19-17:7
Matthew 22:1-33
Psalm 27:1-6
Proverbs 6:20-26

What a wonderful personal story about asking God to prove He exists. I think every child has done that at some time.
It’ a good reminder that even though God gave the Egyptians dramatic signs, they still didn’t believe. That will help me explain to my own children why God doesn’t always give us signs.
