Learn How to Make the Bible Real to Your Children

Is God Concerned About the Details of My Life?

A few years ago when our kids were still in the primary grades we moved to a northern isolated city.  My husband found good construction opportunities there but I felt a little lonely.  It was a place where workers were transient and families didn’t always stay.

One weekend we were camping at a lake.  We were not early risers but decided to see if the fish were biting at nine in the morning.  While we were lazily putting the squirming worms [yes, we used live worms] on our fishing hooks we were also looking around.  I saw this couple, a man and a woman, coming down the trail we had just come down.  My husband and I looked at each other and laughed because I said, “That couple sure reminds me of my sister and her husband.”

We helped our kids cast their lines.  My husband and I looked at each other askance. That couple was coming closer and they still looked a lot like Henry and Clara, my sister and her husband.  We cast our line out into the lake.  The next time we looked up, there they were right beside us.  No more guessing. It was my sister and her husband.

That situation taught me that God cares about every minute detail of my life and desires.  Here I was lonely, feeling sorry for myself.  And what did God do?  He brought my family right to my doorstep, or camper pad. They weren’t even thinking of coming to see us because they didn’t have our address or phone number with them.  They were driving back to Abbotsford from their vacation in Alaska. They stopped to enjoy a fishing hole at the same lake we were.  And we had a fun filled whole weekend with them.  Obviously it was all ‘God –planned’.

When I read about how intricately God planned everything about the tabernacle I realize He is fully in control and cares about all the minute details of my life too.  It is amazing that the God who made and maintains the universe cares about me.

“Not one sparrow (What do they cost? Two for a penny?) can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.  And the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t worry!  You are more valuable to him than many sparrows.     Matthew 10: 29 to 31 [New Living Bible]

I want to walk with you spiritually this year, inviting you to read the Bible through from cover to cover; from Genesis 1 all the way to Revelation 22:21.  If that sounds too difficult for you and your kids, you can join in again after you have taken a break or join us for the days you’re up to it.  We will start on Sunday, January 18th and finish Saturday, January 16, 2010.  I promise that you will understand the Bible in a much deeper way if you read it through from cover to cover in a year’s time.

Accept my challenge to read the Bible through in one year chronologically, including the Old and the New Testament.

I’m going to give you an extra challenge for the next few days only. We need to read 2 days readings each day until we catch up on the right day of the year, so we can finish by December 31, 2009.

Day44: Today read:
Exodus 35:10-36:38
Matthew 27:32-66
Psalm 34:1-10
Proverbs 9:7-8

Day 45:
