Learn How to Make the Bible Real to Your Children

Even God Welcomes Persistence

When my son was much younger he would often say to me, “If you aren’t bugged you’re aren’t loved.”  He would hang around me when I was very busy and get in the way of me getting things done.  He loved to tease.  And I loved all this about him because I could tell he loved me.  He wanted to be with me.

God is like that too. He loves it when we hang around Him. He wants us to talk to Him on and off during the day, not just in our prayer time.  He is never too busy to spend time with us.

In the book of Mark, Jesus challenges the Syro-Phoenician woman.  He ignored her but she persevered and kept on asking Him.  He told her He was busy with His own people, the Jews.  “First I should help my own family – the Jews. It isn’t right to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.” Mark 7:27 [The Living Bible]

Jesus honored her persistence: “That’s true, sir, but even the puppies under the table are given some scraps from the children’s plates.” And he healed the woman’s daughter.

I want to walk with you spiritually this year, inviting you to read the Bible through from cover to cover; from Genesis 1 all the way to Revelation 22:21.  If that sounds too difficult for you and your kids, you can join in again after you have taken a break or join us for the days you’re up to it.  We will start on Sunday, January 18th and finish Saturday, January 16, 2010.  I promise that you will understand the Bible in a much deeper way if you read it through from cover to cover in a year’s time.

Accept my challenge to read the Bible through in one year chronologically, including the Old and the New Testament.

I’m going to give you an extra challenge for the next few days only. We need to read 2 days readings each day until we catch up on the right day of the year, so we can finish by December 31, 2009.

Day 54: Today read:
Leviticus 16:29-18:30
Mark 7:24-8:10
Psalm 41:1-13
Proverbs 10:15-16

Day 55:
Leviticus 19:1-20:21
Mark 8:11-38
Psalm 42:1-11
Proverbs 10:17
